Winery at Holy Cross Abbey

Since July 2002, The Winery at Holy Cross Abbey has been attracting visitors from all over the world. Located on the pastoral and serene grounds of The Holy Cross Abbey, nestled against the spectacular backdrop of the Wet Mountains, the winery and tasting room are shining examples of what draws visitors to Cañon City and Fremont County.

The tasting room is open daily, and was voted Best Front Range Tasting Room by Colorado Vine. There is ample parking, and the beautiful tree-shaded park has picnic tables where you can enjoy your lunch and a bottle of wine. The gracious staff will guide visitors through a tasting of multi-award winning wines. The gift shop is filled with items from all over the world, as well as many items that are distinctively Colorado.

The winery is also host to an annual harvest festival. Always the last week-end of September, 2010 marks the 9th year the fest has been ongoing. Celebrating the year’s grape harvest with music, food and the arts, the highlight of the festival is the crushing of the community grapes for the wildly popular Wild Cañon Harvest wine. The wine contains grapes from over fifty growers, while seventeen different varietals of grapes have now been identified as part of the blend. The wine is traditionally released the week of Thanksgiving, and has become the celebrated holiday wine of Cañon City.

This years’ harvest fest will take place on Saturday, September 25th and Sunday September 26th. The Winemakers’ Dinner will kick off the festivities on September 24th. Award winning wines will be paired and served with exquisite cuisine. Reservations for this event are highly recommended, as it is expected to sell out quickly.

The winery is also a wonderful place for your gift shopping, as they can now ship wine to most states. Your gifts can be taken care of from start to finish. If you can’t visit the tasting room to shop, check out the winery website at www.abbeywinery.com.

The tasting room and gift shop is open Monday through Saturday from 10:00am until 6:00pm, and on Sundays from 12:00pm until 5:00pm. For more information call 877-422-9463 (HCA WINE).
